Each year, honey bees visit Dark Sky New Mexico looking for a new home. They are essentially harmless but are quite valuable as pollinators for local farmers and gardeners.
Kyle Josephy, a local apiarist, works with DSNM to gather and relocate these bees to his apiary near Cotton City. As shown, he liberally applies smoke to congregate the bees and make them easier to gather. They are scooped into a plastic bucket and transferred onto frames. He gathered an estimated five frames or one hive on this trip and reported he was able to capture the queen bee.
His honey is frequently served at DSNM and is quite a delicacy.
