DSNM Supports the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Plates for Education Workshop

Dark Sky New Mexico was pleased to sponsor a Las Cruces teacher to attend the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Plates for Education Workshop. This workshop was offered in conjunction with the 108th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) that was held in Las Cruces, New Mexico on 0ctober 19 2019.

The AAVSO mission is to enable anyone, anywhere to participate in scientific discovery through variable star astronomy. For over 100 years, AAVSO has trained observers, educated the public, and curated a rich database of nearly 30,000 variable objects. AAVSO data appear in scientific manuscripts and their observers are often called to support space-based observations and their manuals and software are commonly used in classrooms and by astronomy clubs for information and training. Their charts and sequences are in high demand by observers all over the world, and VSX is widely used by the astronomy community as a resource of up-to-date information on variable stars.

We at Dark Sky New Mexico are proud to support AAVSO in its efforts to support the astronomical community’s data needs. For more information on AAVSO, click here.
